Murray House is a split level style home in Clifton, NJ. It is the longest running group home for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the state of New Jersey. Murray House provides help and creates hope for 5 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Murray House opened it’s doors in Paterson, NJ to two residents in 1971. Murray House is named after Jimmie Murray, a child with developmental disabilities from Paterson who passed away in 1969. Four generations of Murray Family members have stayed involved with DPD to honor Jimmie’s legacy in various capacities. Jimmie’s memory is forever honored through the individuals who live at Murray House and through the good work of the Murray Family.
The Murray House moved to Allwood Place in Clifton in 1992 and celebrated 40 years of service in 2011. Each year, the Murray House Dinner Dance is held in honor of Murray House, with funds benefitting the Department for Persons with Disabilities.
As the people we serve age, so too does our ability to serve when combating environmental issues like stairs, accessible doorways, entrances and bathrooms. We have been trying to re-locate Murray house for a few years now because it is a four-story home and what is needed is a ranch style home where the people we serve can age in place. We are about to renovate our new Murray House in Clifton and hoping to open in the late spring. For updates about this capital improvement project, please go to ccpaterson.org/capital.
